Horizon Builders and Muse Architects Win Remodeling Magazine’s Grand Award for Expansive Details

CROFTON, MD – February 16, 2010 – Horizon Builders and Muse Architects today announced that the companies have jointly won Remodeling magazine’s prestigious Grand Award in the category of Expansive Details. Horizon Builders is a firm specializing in the construction of architect-designed renovations and custom homes in the mid-Atlantic region, and Muse Architects is a Bethesda, Md.-based architectural firm focusing on sustainable design, residential, institutional, commercial and urban projects. The companies worked as a team to design and build the residential renovation that won this prestigious award.

• Remodelers, design builders and architects from around the country entered more than 270 projects in this competition. Judges considered creativity, originality and power of presentation as well as the flexibility of floor plans and the relationship between each structure’s exterior and interior design. In the end, the judges chose to honor the outstanding work of various architects, builders and landscapers on 16 different remodeling projects.
• Contractor Horizon Builders and architectural firm Muse Architects won a Grand Award for the renovation of a 1930s house located on a one-acre lot in Washington, D.C.
• The family commissioned the renovation to expand the small home to include an in-law suite, a room for foreign exchange students and a separate area for live-in staff. The home’s focal point is a two-story courtyard of shared living and entertainment space.
• This recent award from Remodeling caps a successful year in which Horizon Builders won Custom Home magazine’s 2009 Builder of the Year and was inducted into BUILDER magazine’s Wm. S. Marvin Hall of Fame for Design Excellence.
• In 2008, Muse Architects was also inducted into BUILDER magazine’s Wm. S. Marvin Hall of Fame for Design Excellence.
