Horizon Builders Celebrates 25th Anniversary

CROFTON, MD — July 26, 2007 — Horizon Builders, which specializes in building architect-designed, custom residences in the Mid-Atlantic region, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2007. Founded as a general home building contractor in 1982, today Horizon is recognized as one of the premier residential builders in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC areas.

"We would not be where we are today without the support of the architects and homeowners we have been fortunate enough to work with over the years and for that we are truly grateful," said Joseph Bohm, CEO of Horizon. "We look forward to many more years of building quality architect-designed homes."

Horizon traces its roots to a series of backyard barbecues where neighbors Joe Bohm and George Fritz realized they shared a common interest in home building and the desire to work for themselves. At the time, Bohm was an accountant working for a large manufacturing company and Fritz was a Maryland State Trooper.

Since they both had young families to support, they decided to keep their jobs and see if they could build a business in their spare time. Headquartered in the basement of Bohm’s home, the business did well from the start and, shortly thereafter, both men left their jobs to focus on it full time.

In its early years, Horizon took on all sorts of residential projects, but the company’s focus was always on quality. "Our commitment to quality craftsmanship led to a call one day from a young architect who had just signed a prestigious contract with a journalist and needed a builder," explained Fritz, now COO of Horizon. "We took on the project, and through the building process, developed a great relationship with both the architect and the owner, as well as a reputation for high quality work. This resulted in more calls from architects and more high profile projects."

"These early experiences define how Horizon does business today," Bohm added. "In fact, we call the relationship between the builder, architect and owner the ‘golden triangle’ because our success was built on this important partnership."

While Horizon is highly recognized as a specialist in building architect-designed homes, it does much more — from new construction, renovations, additions to more whole house remodeling.
