Horizon Builders Reaches Out To Our Troops

CROFTON, MD – January 30, 2008 – While Horizon Builders has long supported local community programs through the donation of time, services and funds, for the past two years the company has been spreading its generosity overseas. To show its support for U.S. troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other parts of the world, Horizon Builders has been sending "WeCare" packages on a regular basis, with notes of encouragement, to the soldiers through a program called Any Soldier Inc.®

Any Soldier was started in August 2003 by an Army Infantry Soldier in Iraq who agreed to distribute packages addressed to "Attn: Any Soldier" to soldiers in his brigade who didn't receive much mail. In January 2004, the effort was expanded to include any member of the Armed Forces in harm’s way. Since the program began in 2003, more than 993,000 members of the military service have been helped, and of these, nearly 20% have been women soldiers.

"It is with great gratitude and much appreciation that I write you today," said one woman soldier in a thank you letter sent in response to a Horizon package. "Two nights ago we received mail and among it was a package you kindly and thoughtfully sent for the female soldiers. I think it is incredible how much love we are getting from people who hold no personal ties to us…I didn’t think there were such caring people out there!"

Every few weeks Horizon requests soldiers’ names and addresses from the web site, www.anysoldier.com. Horizon’s leadership and staff then purchase a variety of items that are assembled into "WeCare" packages. The items, which include an assortment of snack foods, toiletries, puzzles and games as well as letters, are sent directly to the bases where the soldiers serve. Horizon has assembled and sent more than 100 care packages since the company found out about the program more than two years ago.

"I like your notes inside the box and especially laughed at ‘keep your heads down and your spirits up,’" said another soldier. "The wonderful words and nice things you sent made the day special. Thanks to all of you at Horizon Builders for your thoughts, prayers and kindness."
