Tip #1: Super water-efficient home products
Installing water-efficient appliances and fixtures is the easiest and most cost-effective thing the homeowner can do to reduce clean water consumption. From dual flush toilets to Energy Star rated appliances, solutions for building water efficiency into the home abound. Low-flow faucets, shower heads, and toilets are available from most major manufacturers now. And, low water volume washing machines and dishwashers are also widely available. If not Energy Star rated, most manufacturers provide water use data for shopping comparison. Technologies have improved to the point where low-volume fixtures and appliances now perform just as well, or better, than traditional models. Homeowner or builder concerns about poor performance are based on myth, not reality.
