Meet George Fritz, Chief Operating Officer
A native of the Baltimore area, George Fritz was exposed to the building trade through his father. He attended Cardinal Gibbons High School and, then, the University of Maryland Baltimore County graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Sociology.
At that time it was police work, not building, that appealed to George. He saw it as an exciting profession that offered him the chance to make a difference. So, in 1975, he became a Maryland State Trooper. It was while he was a police officer that he met and married his wife, Teresa and started a family.
In the early 80s George built a home for his family in the same community as the Bohm family. Teresa and Gail Bohm met through their children, who are the same age. They introduced their husbands, George and Joe, who became friends.
Joe was working as an accountant then and George appreciated his knowledge of business. As their friendship grew, they discovered that they shared an entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in home building. And the more they talked, the more the thought of combining their skills to start a home building business made sense. In 1982, they started Horizon Builders as a part-time business. And in 1983, George resigned from the Maryland State Troopers to focus on Horizon Builders full time.
George, who is responsible for the production side of Horizon Builders, has since taken graduate courses in business administration at the University of Baltimore. He has also become involved with several building industry organizations including the Architectural Woodwork Institute, the U.S. Green Building Council, Associated Builders & Contractors, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, and the American Institute of Architecture, among others.
George actively supports a number of civic and community groups. A member of the Holy Family Church, George contributes to many church-sponsored programs and serves on the board of Archbishop Spalding High School. In addition, he is very supportive of groups that work to improve the state of disabled persons including the Kennedy Kreiger Society, Maryland Therapeutic Riding and National MS Society, and organizations that protect citizens such as the Maryland Troopers Association and the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association.
Teresa and George have been married for 28 years and have three sons and a daughter. They live in Southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland. |
