Horizon Cares

Horizon Builders supports a number of community programs every year through the donation of time, services and funds. They include:

Washington Architectural Foundation

Horizon Builders continues to support the Washington Architectural Foundation (WAF) by donating both time and treasure. Joe Bohm, Horizon co-founder, serves as treasurer on the board of directors and his company provides the much needed financial support to offer architecture-related programs to a broad spectrum of people.

Whether it's teaching children through its Architecture in the Schools program, giving free design services to nonprofits through Community Design Services, or helping to end hunger through its CANstruction program, the WAF leverages its resources to serve the greater metro Washington DC community.

For more information about the Washington Architectural Foundation, visit www.wafonline.org.

St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church

During the Christmas holidays, Horizon Builders helps St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, located in the inner city of Baltimore, Maryland, provide food and needed personal supplies to the under privileged in its community. Horizon principals and staff go to Sam’s Club every year with a 20’ tractor-trailer to fill with food staples, clothing, personal toiletries, etc. for St. Gregory’s. Pallets are filled to the limit and then hand loaded until the trailer is filled from floor to ceiling. The trailer is driven to St. Gregory’s and unloaded by Horizon staff and the parishioners. Through this initiative, more than $30,000 worth of food and products was distributed to the needy this year as well as subsequent years.

Any Soldier

To show its support for the U.S. troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other parts of the world, Horizon Builders regularly sends “WeCare” packages, with notes of encouragement, to the soldiers. The “WeCare” packages contain an assortment of snack foods, toiletries, puzzles and games purchased by Horizon and its staff. Every few weeks the company requests soldiers’ names and addresses from the AnySolder.com web site and sends the boxes directly to the bases where they serve. Since the program began, Horizon Builders has sent over 40 care packages. For additional information about the organization, Any Soldier, visit www.anysoldier.com.

Maryland Therapeutic Riding

Horizon Builders has supported Maryland Therapeutic Riding (MTR) for the past five years. MTR is an organization that helps people of all ages with disabilities. Through horseback riding, a disabled individual can experience freedom from wheelchairs and other apparatus that often restricts them in their daily lives. This has proven to be a healing and enjoyable experience for people who live with many limitations and has been accepted by doctors, therapists and insurance companies as a recognized therapy. Joseph Bohm, a MTR board member and one of the owners of Horizon, was first acquainted with this organization through his daughter who participates in the program as a rider. Horizon sponsors MTR’s work through ongoing was cash and in kind donations. In addition, Joe Bohm plays an active role in helping MTR raise funds though Horizon’s subcontractors and clients.
