Meet Joe Bohm, President and CEO
A self-proclaimed Army brat, Joe Bohm lived all over the country before his family settled down in the Laurel area of Maryland in 1963. Upon graduation from high school, Joe went to the University of Maryland where he earned a degree in business and accounting, and subsequently became a CPA.
After college, Joe pursued a successful career as an accountant, eventually rising to the post of comptroller/CFO for a manufacturing company based in Columbia, Maryland. During this time, he also met and married his wife, Gail, and started a family.
But Joe had an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to "count his own beans." Through the process of buying and selling several homes for his growing family, he developed an interest in home building. So when he met his neighbor, George Fritz, a police officer who shared his interest, the seed for a business was planted. In 1982, Horizon Builders became a reality.
Since the company was founded, Joe has become very active in the building industry. He currently sits on the board and is treasurer of the Washington Architectural Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and he is on the board of the Institute of Classical Architecture. He is also a member of numerous other building trade organizations.
Joe is involved with several business groups as well. He serves on the Leadership Council of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, is on the board of Maryland Business for a Responsive Government, and is a board member and treasurer of the Trust in Small Business PAC.
In addition, Joe is on the board of Maryland Therapeutic Riding, a nonprofit organization that strives to improve the lives of riders with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities. He supports numerous other charitable organizations too.
A dedicated family man, Joe and Gail, who are celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary this year, have three daughters and three grandchildren. They reside in Crownsville, Maryland. |
